The US administration is considering the possibility of striking Iran this weekend, but a final decision has not yet been made, CBS News reported Wednesday, citing its sources.
According to their reports, national security officials reported to US President Donald Trump that "the military is ready for possible strikes on Iran as early as Saturday, but the timing of any action is likely to change." As CBS News emphasizes, a final decision "has not yet been made" and the White House is "assessing the risks of escalation, as well as the political and military consequences of refraining from a possible attack."
On January 26, Washington announced that a "huge fleet" was moving towards Iran. The American side expressed hope that Tehran will sit down at the negotiating table and reach a "fair and equal" agreement, which will include complete abandonment of nuclear weapons.
The US warned that "the next attack will be worse", referring to strikes against the Islamic Republic in the summer of 2025, and called for "preventing it".
