Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Ankara at the first session of the Gaza Peace Council, which is scheduled to be held in the United States on February 19, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced.
"On behalf of the president, our minister will participate in the first session of the Peace Council, which will take place in Washington on February 19, on behalf of the president," the statement said. On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the Charter of the Peace Council established to promote the peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip within the framework of the World Economic Forum held in Davos. Washington announced that other states have also joined the organization.
The peace council was created under the agreement between Israel and the Palestinian radical Hamas movement on the governance of Gaza, but it is also expected to work to prevent and resolve conflicts in other regions. The United States plays a leading role in the council.
