The United States is grateful to Hungary for its role in the "Peace Council" created by Washington, which aimed to resolve the situation in Gaza, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday.
"On behalf of the President of the United States, I want to thank you for the invaluable role you played in the Peace Council. Not everyone is in the Peace Council. Not all of them. For various reasons. They may or may not be a member, but you are a member and you have been there since day one," he said during a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
The administration of the US president sent invitations to the leaders of about 50 countries to participate in the "Peace Council" on the Gaza issue, and for several days they publicly announced that they had received the invitation of the US president. The invitees include countries from various regions, from Australia to Japan. Russia, Belarus and Ukraine also want it.
The first session of the "Peace Council", as announced by US President Donald Trump, will take place in Washington on February 19. More than $5 billion in funding for Gaza reconstruction is expected to be announced there.
