NATO has ordered tank shells from Rheinmetall

German defense company Rheinmetall has announced that NATO has ordered approximately 200 million euros worth of 120 mm tank rounds.

"The NATO Support and Supply Agency (NSPA) has ordered the first batch of ammunition, worth approximately €200 million, under the framework agreement for 120 mm (tank) rounds, due in 2025," Rheinmetall said in a press release.

The defense company explained that the agreement allows NATO member states to streamline the procurement process by placing orders directly through NSPA. The final customers are "various countries" in the bloc, Rheinmetall added.

In recent years, Russia has seen unprecedented NATO activity along its western borders. The alliance is expanding its initiatives and calling it "deterring Russian aggression." Russian authorities have repeatedly expressed concern about the alliance's buildup of forces in Europe.
