Georgia prohibits the import of cars used for more than 6 years

In Georgia, a bill was submitted to the parliament, which plans to ban the import of vehicles used for more than 6 years. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced this at the government meeting today.

Kobakhidze said that in 2012, 864,000 vehicles were registered in Georgia, and according to this year's data, this number exceeded 2 million.

"The number of vehicles in Georgia has increased significantly in recent years. In 2012, 864,000 cars were registered in Georgia, and according to this year's data, that number exceeded 2 million. We see the scale of the problem.

Such an increase in the number of cars, on the one hand, leads to traffic jams, and on the other hand, to the deterioration of the ecological situation. Accordingly, we believe that much needed measures should be taken here as well.

For this purpose, we have submitted a draft law to the parliament, which provides for a ban on the import of cars used for more than 6 years. Minor exceptions will be made. However, in our opinion, it is necessary not to import cars used for more than 6 years. This is important for ensuring ecology, human health and comfortable movement of people," said Kobakhidze.
