Japan will purchase non-lethal equipment for Ukraine

The Japanese government has decided to join the PURL program of support to Ukraine created by NATO, within the framework of which the purchase of American-made equipment is planned for further transfer to Kiev. This was reported by Japanese public television.

It is noted that the funds from the Japanese side will be used exclusively for the purchase of non-lethal equipment and gear. In particular, it refers to radar systems and body armor. It is also noted that Japan has already informed a number of NATO member states, as well as Ukraine, about its decision.

The PURL program was created by NATO in the summer of 2025 in response to the United States' decision to end free arms supplies to Kiev. According to the program, Kiev formulates its military needs, and the countries of the European Union allocate financial resources, buy these weapons from the USA and transfer them to Ukraine free of charge.
