Bashar al-Assad spent his last days in power playing mobile games

The former president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, ignored the offers of help from his allies and was busy with games in the last days before the collapse of his regime, writes The Atlantic.

According to the article's author, Robert Worth, who interviewed officers and regular guests at the presidential palace in Damascus, Assad has made no attempt to improve the situation in the country or to maintain power, despite offers of help from Russia, Turkey and Iran.

According to his sources, Asad did not even answer calls, preferring to play games on his mobile phone.

The Assad regime was toppled in December 2024, when anti-government forces quickly captured Aleppo and then Damascus.
