MMA fighter Tigran Hovhannisyan was arrested in Russia. TASS:

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Tigran Hovhannisyan was arrested in the Tula region of the Russian Federation. He is accused of creating an inter-ethnic group engaged in extortion, law enforcement officials told TASS.

According to the investigators, Hovhannisyan created a section in the Shchekino sports club, among whose students were representatives of the ethnic diaspora. Hovhannisyan recruited them to engage in robberies and extortion, the TASS source claims. It is reported that a criminal case has been initiated.

The Baza Telegram channel reports that the members of the group posed as law enforcement officers and demanded money from 500,000 to 800,000 rubles from the victims.

"MMA condemns in the strongest terms any violation of the law and reaffirms its commitment to the principles of law and order," the Tula MMA Federation said in a statement. The statement emphasizes that Hovhannisyan is not a member of the organization.
