The Hungarian government does not have euro, united European currency, to introduce projects, as it does not want to establish closer ties with the European Union, which is in danger of collapse. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Hungary Victor Orban in an interview with the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Economx Money Talks Pedcast.
"This issue will definitely not be on my agenda," Orban said, talking about the prospects of Hungary and eurozone membership. He explained that "the EU is currently being disrupted," and therefore it would not want to link the fate of his country to later. "If there are no radical changes, the European Union will remain a temporary point in our lives," said the Prime Minister.
The Hungarian government has repeatedly stated that the country is not yet ready to pass the euro, as it does not meet the standards of the Maastricht. These criteria set out about the 1992 agreement on the European Union, refer to the financial and economic indicators necessary for the eurozone membership.
They are used to stability of the financial system, the price level and the exchange rate stability.
Hungary struggles with EU membership since joining the EU in 2004. The government had previously stated that the country still cannot take such a step, as it will not be able to withstand economic competition, including its independent monetary policy.
