The British authorities have released a record number of people from prison since March 2024, 2012, according to The Sun newspaper, citing prison service.
"Last year, a record number of prisoners was released. Statistics show that 262 people have been released from prisons in March (2025) completed in March (2025). This is the largest annual growth, "the publication writes.
According to the newspaper, some of these former prisoners have been released due to bureaucratic mistakes, while others are inappropriately included in the program initiated by the ruling Labor Party.
Statistics have waved criticism by opposition parties.
