At least 7,557 prisoners escaped from Nepal prisons during the widespread mass riots in the country on September 9. This was reported by My Republica, citing the source of the Nepal Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the media, the reports about the fugitives were received from 13 correctional institutions. The units of the law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces have been deployed throughout the country to return criminals. Authorities have called on citizens to maintain warning and express any suspicious situation.
The situation in Nepal was aggravated after the government banned 26 social platforms, as they were not registered in accordance with the requirements of the authorities. Against the background of the protests, the ban on social networks was revoked, but the protests continued, and the country's prime minister resigned.
