Poland is expanding the buffer zone on the border with Belarus

Polish authorities have decided to extend the buffer zone on the border with Belarus for three months, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Management of the Republic said.

"The Minister of Internal Affairs and the Administration has extended the term of the buffer zone on the Polish-Belarusian border for three months," the statement said. It has been clarified that the buffer zone will be extended from September 6 to December 4.

It is believed that the decision is supposed to be associated with "Belarusian-growing migration pressure".

"The buffer zone serves the protection of the state border and the fight against smugglers, which by Polish adopts the people who try to cross the border illegally," the statement said.

According to the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of attempts to cross the border from Belarus in recent months has almost doubled compared to the same period last year. From June 2025, the border guards registered almost 13.8 thousand such cases. During the same period last year, 7.5 thousand were registered, which means 83% growth.
