Poland ceases to buy F-35 fighters

The purchase of 32 US F-35 fighters by Poland has been suspended until the country's development program is developed, Breaking Defense reports, citing the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Armed Forces Czari Visnevsky.

"The priority for Poland remains" to get more fighters in the short term, but any step to acquire 32 new fighters is suspended before the new long-term defense program is approved, "the statement said.

According to Vishnevsky, this document must be confirmed within a few months.

In March 2019, the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense signed a technical modernization program of the country's armed forces until 2026. It envisages the acquisition of 32-fifth generation F-35 aircraft until 2026. In August 2024, the Polish Ministry of Defense announced the first F-35s, but noted that they would arrive in Poland only in 2026.
