According to the Georgian National Statistical Service, the total cost of gas imports in the country amounted to 183.048 million, of which $ 100.647 million (55%) fell to Russia and Azerbaijan (45%).
For years, Azerbaijan has been observed in Georgia's main gas partner, especially since the South Caucasus gas pipeline (SCP).
However, the current data testify to the changing supply logistics and geononomic route. Tbilisi seems to be reviewed by its energy and geopolitical strategic calculations, the most multi-vector and diversified model. The recent inconveniences for Turkish capital are one of its important manifestations.
Against the background of this process, Yerevan's statements on possible import of Azerbaijani gas are noteworthy. Prior to the region, a new gape economic architecture is beginning, based on the balance of market logic and geopolitical pressure, official Yerevan continues to adopt a political line that is simply out of the geopolitical logic.
Returning to the example of Georgia, we notice not just change in gas imports, but also a trend in a deeper, geopolitical rehabilitation. The dominant position of Russian gas may be due not only to the competitiveness of prices, but also by relative stability of the supply, in the conditions of uncertainty in the region's communication infrastructure.
At the same time, this can also testify to the problem of the resource base in Azerbaijan. Already in 2027, Baku will face a serious problem due to the obligation to double the export of gas to the European market. And since the "Trans-Caspian gas pipeline" project is unlikely to be implemented in the near future, Azerbaijan will have to reduce exports in other directions to ensure its position in Europe. "
