China has always been against illegal unilateral sanctions that have not been approved by the UN Security Council. The statement came from Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Leghyan, commenting on Canada's imposition of a number of Chinese companies for alleged defense cooperation with the Russian Federation.

"China has always opposed one-sided anti-sanctions that have not been approved by the UN Security Council and have no foundations of international law," said the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
