Armenia is participating at the highest level in the Munich Security Conference, a platform where new security principles are being formed and ways to overcome global challenges are being discussed. This year, the key topics of the conference are the future of European security, the war in Ukraine, and the changing role of the United States in the global security system.
Arman Babajanyan, the chairman of the “For the Republic” party, wrote about this on his social network page.
According to Babajanyan, the European security architecture is in a transformation phase, and this process concerns not only NATO and the EU, but also the broader geopolitical environment, including the South Caucasus.
“The war in Ukraine has shaken Europe, forcing countries to reassess security strategies, strengthen defense capabilities, and reconsider their positions in relations with Russia.
This means that it is important for Armenia to ensure the inclusion of its security agenda in international discussions, especially given regional uncertainties. The role of the United States is changing, due to both domestic political realignments and the revision of global priorities.
If in previous years Washington's focus was on Europe and the strengthening of NATO, now the trend is clearly multifaceted, also encompassing Asia, the Middle East and other regions.
In this situation, Armenia should be able to strengthen its positions by activating strategic dialogue with the United States and European partners, as well as by participating in new initiatives that are being formed within the framework of ensuring security.
Taking all this into account, the Munich Conference is an important opportunity for Armenia to clearly present its position,to strengthen relations with key partners and understand what place it can occupy in the emerging new security environment.
Diplomatic flexibility and active involvement in these processes will provide additional opportunities for Armenia, both in security, political and economic terms,” the note says.
