Yesterday at the Armenian Embassy in Washington, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan once again appealed to manipulations, trying to justify his losing approach under the cover of reimbursing Armenia's national interests.
His rhetoric may seem pragmatic for some, but under it, there is a troubling trend in historical revisions, which endangers security and national identity in Armenia's long run. Former Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian wrote about this on the Facebook page.
"National interests must develop in response to geopolitical realities, but they cannot be built on erasing or distortion of historical truths. Preserving a clear and unshakable or unshakable or unshakable non-orientative country like Armenia is not just a matter of pride, but a strategic necessity, "Oskanian said.
According to him, the recognition of the new reality created after 2020 does not mean a renunciation of historical facts or weakening of national identity.
According to Oskanian, Armenia must reiterate its interests, not to rewrite its history, and more importantly, it must decide on the most effective, non-confrontation measures to pursue these interests.
"The national interest of Armenia should remain the maintenance of its sovereignty and security. This requires strengthening of military capacity, intelligence actions, strategic restraint, and reasonable diplomacy. In addition to security and diplomacy, the Armenian government must maintain and claim to manipulate it for political convenience.
Pashinyan's attempts to humiliate Armenia's historical claims and reconsidering external pressures, not serve the national interests, but they are convinced of the weakening of tensions with Turkey that the Armenian Genocide has happened. Rather, Armenia can say that Turkey's non-recognition is not an obstacle to normalization of relations, mitigating its aspiration to international recognition. Similarly, according to Oskanian, the solution of territorial issues with Turkey does not mean to eliminate the historical existence of Western Armenia. It simply requires that Armenia have territorial claims.
"Pashinyan can't understand that diplomacy is a two-way way. It requires mutual involvement. Its calmingness to Azerbaijan is not rated, ineffective. It does nothing to change Baku's aggressive and expansionist position on Armenia.
His so-called realism is deeply deficient, it is unaware of the basic perception of geopolitical realities and to maintain its own position, which makes Armenia more vulnerable to further threats.
After all, national endurance is not built not on the strong perception of denial, but with a strategic adaptation.
Pashinyan's approach, which prioritizes short-term calms than historical continuity, is a dangerous game. Armenia's survival and sovereignty depends not to rewrite history, but to strengthen its past as a lever, not to allow foreign pressures to dictate its national ministry, "Oskanian concluded.
