Estonia insists on a rotating presence of NATO ships in the Baltic Sea

Estonia proposes to carry out patrolling in the Baltic Sea with the ships of NATO member states on a rotational basis. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the Baltic Republic, Hanno Pevkur, in an interview with the ERR portal of the national state television and radio.

"As far as maritime space is concerned, we have always been of the opinion that from a defense point of view the Baltic Sea cannot be divided, and therefore NATO has agreed that the countries of the region jointly manage the Maritime Operations Center to defend it.

Initially, Germany will take the main responsibility. Currently, negotiations are underway on whether and how it is possible to involve Sweden and Poland to start the rotation, as it happens in the case of air surveillance," said the head of the Ministry of Defense.
