The statements of the newly elected US President Donald Trump about the intention to annex Greenland are a manifestation of imperialism, therefore, Europe should invest in its defense. This was announced by Sophie Prima, Minister-Envoy for Foreign Trade and French Citizens Abroad at the French Foreign Ministry.
"Today, the alliances are getting stronger, which can be interpreted as a form of imperialism, which is manifested, in particular, by Mr. Trump's statements about the physical annexation of an entire territory," he said.
"This morning, this issue was raised in a general way, it was said that we, together with our European partners, must be more aware than ever, get rid of naivety, prepare, re-equip, reveal investments in defense, digital and space. These investments by industries will protect Europe and ensure its strength in relation to these blocs," the minister-delegate added.
Prima noted that this issue is "sensitive" and not only reflects the rise of imperialist ambitions of various blocs on the world stage, but also shows the weakening of the form of democracy to which France was committed and which it considered "eternal".
