Chinese authorities have imposed a temporary ban on tourists visiting the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, following an earthquake in the southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), Xinhua news agency reported.
As mentioned, we are talking about a mountain resort located in Tingri county. The hotels located there and the surrounding infrastructure were not affected. All holidaymakers and staff are said to be safe.
Chomolungma is located on the China-Nepal border and reaches a height of 8,848 meters. According to official data, about 13,700 tourists from China visited the mountain in 2024, twice as many as the previous year.
