The number of journalists killed in the Gaza conflict has reached 220

Palestinian writer, poet and journalist Mohammad Hijazi was killed in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of the Gaza Strip as a result of an Israeli airstrike.

QatarAl Jazeera TV channelreported that since October 7, 2023, the total number of members of the press killed during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has reached 220.

The channel quoted a statement from Gaza's Health Ministry as saying that Hijazi was among 90 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on the besieged territory over the weekend.

The Union of Palestinian Journalists reported on January 5 that the Israeli military committed 84 violations and crimes against Palestinian journalists during the previous month.

Most of these incidents took place in the Gaza Strip, where ten media workers were killed.

The Israeli side continues to use various types of violence and pressure against journalists, including intimidation, direct threats with weapons, unjust persecution, financial fines and restrictions on movement, the organization notes.
