The Government of the Republic of Armenia aims to regulate the processes of management and conservation of water resources of the Ararat Valley, the project has been published on the unified website for the publication of e-draft legal acts for public discussion.
In order to increase the efficiency of the management of water resources of the Ararat valley, in the "Water Code" of 2024 and by the order of the Minister of Environment, restrictions on the use of new wells were set in a number of communities of Ararat and Armavir marzes.
In those communities, it is prohibited to grant water use permits through new wells, as well as the use of existing wells for fish breeding purposes. The project envisages limiting the provision of hydrogeological information. "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNOC will not provide hydrogeological information for the prohibited communities of the Ararat Valley, to regulate business activities. the business activity of SNOC in the prohibited communities in providing information on water use is limited.
With the adoption of the project, stricter control of the water resources of the Ararat Valley, effective enforcement of water use restrictions in prohibited communities is expected.
