The investigative team investigating the case of South Korean President Yun Seok-yeol has requested a warrant for his arrest, Yonhap agency reports.
"The application was submitted to the Seoul Western District Court. The group requested the arrest warrant after Yoon Seok Yeol ignored three summonses to appear for questioning," the agency said.
The president's representative said he intends to take "official steps" in response to the request for an arrest warrant. At the beginning of December, the parliament dismissed President Yoon Seok Yeol from power, after which Han Deok Su became the acting president. The reason for such a move against Yoon Seok Yeol was his attempt to introduce martial law in the country on December 3 to fight against political opponents.
This decision caused outrage among the people of the country, and the parliament quickly voted to lift martial law.
