Donald Trump, who won the US presidential elections, is considering the possibility of carrying out pre-emptive airstrikes on Iran to prevent the Islamic Republic from developing nuclear weapons, writes The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, during the last telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Republican said that he is worried about the possibility of an Iranian nuclear breakthrough during his presidency and is looking for options to prevent such an outcome.
Other sources say that when discussing the issue of Iran with Trump, two options were considered. One of these includes increasing military pressure by sending more US troops, planes and ships to the Middle East.
"The United States could also sell Israel advanced weapons, such as bunker busting bombs, which would strengthen its offensive power and allow it to disable Iran's nuclear facilities," the publication writes.
