Georgia called the US decision to impose sanctions pointless

The US decision to impose sanctions on Georgia is incomprehensible and senseless, especially against the background of how the same administration of the United States closed the page on human rights violations in the republic during the last years of Mikheil Saakashvili's rule. Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, announced this in a briefing.

"The outgoing American administration was in power during the last years of Saakashvili's rule, when the torture of people became particularly brutal, the free media was virtually destroyed, and the business racket became part of the state system.

We do not remember only the sanctions, but even the clear position of the administration of that time, which is still in power in the United States today. Because of these factors, the outgoing American administrationpositionregarding the application of sanctions is unclear and meaningless," Papuashvili said.
