The US intercepted a ballistic missile for the first time. The Aegis air/missile defense system was used for the test. It was integrated with the AN/TPY-6 radar and vertical launch system. Earlier, the First Deputy Secretary of Defense of the United States, Kathleen Hicks, stated that the Russian Oreshnik missile will not have a strategic impact on the Ukrainian conflict.
According to him, this conclusion was reached by the US President Joe Biden's administration. Before this, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he considers it possible to deploy "Oreshnik" on the territory of Belarus in the second half of 2025. The head of the Russian Federation announced this after the request of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, regarding the deployment of new weapons systems on the territory of the republic.
