Foreign Ministry of Franceis a statementspread about the situation in Syria, welcoming the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
"On this historic day for Syria and the Syrian people, France welcomes the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime after more than 13 years of brutal repression against its own people. Syrians have suffered for too long. Bashar al-Assad left the country devastated and exhausted, losing a large part of the population, who were either exiled, killed, tortured or subjected to chemical weapons attacks by the regime and its allies. France calls for a ceasefire, to preserve state institutions and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria," the statement said.
Paris also calls for a peaceful political transition that respects the diversity of the Syrian people and protects citizens and all minorities in accordance with international law.
