NATO is considering using solar-powered drones to combat GPS interference from Russia and China, an alliance representative told the Breaking Defense portal.
"These are large, high-altitude aircraft that can stay in the air for weeks using solar energy, they can receive a GPS signal and send it to Earth with much greater power, so jamming is more difficult," the portal quoted the assistant as saying.
According to its information, ultra-high-altitude platforms, which can be not only in the form of balloons, but also in the form of light drones, are still not widely used by NATO. However, Reeves emphasized their huge potential in combating GPS jamming, and noted that if the alliance does start using such systems, it will help solve battlefield situational awareness problems.
