NYT. Iran wants to reduce tensions with the US

Tehran has drastically changed its rhetoric on the international stage and after the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the US elections, it is trying to reduce the degree of tension in its relations with Washington. This was reported by the New York Times (NYT) newspaper on Thursday, citing sources.

It is noted that Iran has abandoned tough statements "within a few weeks", replacing them with more "conciliatory" statements. This is due to the developments taking place both inside the country and abroad, the interlocutors of the publication say.

According to them, Tehran's decision to revise its approach is also due to Trump's victory in the November 5 elections.
The Islamic Republic is allegedly concerned about its “unpredictability.” In addition, the NYT claims that Iran's policies have been affected by the economic crisis and the weakening of Tehran's “closest and most important” military ally, the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah.

Considering all these factors, Iran has also decided to refrain from retaliating against Israel in order not to aggravate relations with the new Trump administration, the newspaper adds.
