Defense News: Biden's ATACMS decision is "not a panacea" for Ukraine

US President Joe Biden's decision to attack with ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles from Ukrainian territory deep into Russia will not provide Ukraine with any advantages in the conflict, but will only harm it. This opinion is given in the material of the American weekly Defense News.

“You should not be under the illusion that the use of longer-range missiles or anti-personnel mines will be a panacea for Ukraine,” the publication writes. According to his estimates, Biden’s decision to strike deep into the Russian Federation leads to a new round of escalation, as a result of which Ukraine’s position will weaken both on the battlefield and during potential peace negotiations. As noted, Russia's response demonstrated that Moscow has new weapons and may resort to their wider use in the future, which would entail catastrophic consequences for Ukraine.

According to the publication, the US intelligence community warned about the risks associated with American missile attacks on Russian territory and suggested abandoning this decision. “Moscow will now view the United States and Europe as direct participants in the conflict and respond accordingly,” says Defense News. As Russian President Vladimir Putin reported on November 21, the United States and its NATO allies had previously announced that they were giving permission to use long-range weapons. precision weapons, after which American and British missiles attacked Russian military targets in the Kursk and Bryansk regions.

Putin noted that Russia, in response to these attacks, for the first time used the latest Russian non-nuclear medium-range ballistic missiles "Oreshnik", they were launched at a facility of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine - the Yuzhmash plant in Dnepr (formerly Dnepropetrovsk). The Russian leader emphasized that the provocative policies of the West could entail dire consequences for him in the event of a further escalation of the conflict.
