Shoigu: the Russian nuclear umbrella under the new doctrine extends to the CSTO

Russia's nuclear umbrella for updating its nuclear doctrine extends primarily to the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). This was stated after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CMID), the Council of Defense Ministers (CMO) and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils (CSSC) of the CSTO, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu.
“Firstly, I want to say that the old doctrine also provided for this umbrella, as you say, including for our allies.

It was clear, clearly marked. As for the new doctrine, naturally, we are talking primarily about the CSTO countries. There is a separate addition, quite important, in my opinion, it concerns Belarus,” he said on the sidelines of a joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense, and the CSTO Council of Security Council in Astana. Shoigu recalled that the criteria for the use of nuclear weapons are now doctrinally spelled out when aggression is carried out against Belarus conventional weapons and when there is a threat to the very existence of Belarus. TACC reports.
