Among the possible contenders for the post of Josep Borrell are former Belgian Prime Minister Sophie Wilms. Luxembourg Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel and former Irish Prime Minister Michal Martin. Traditionally, the post was held by representatives of "big countries" such as Great Britain, Italy and Spain. "That this time it could be a representative of a smaller state, many diplomats believe a positive development because bigger countries usually have bigger plans,” Politico emphasized.
