The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. This is stated in the court's press release.
As noted in the document, “the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber unanimously issued two decisions rejecting Israeli objections filed under the Rome Statute. “It also issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Galant” for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in territory of Palestine. They were committed at least during the period from October 8, 2023 to May 20, 2024, the press release states.
The court suspects them of deliberately depriving the civilian population in Gaza of food, water, medicine, as well as fuel and electricity. Both obstructed humanitarian assistance in violation of international humanitarian law and did not cooperate. The court found that their behavior led to a disruption in the ability of humanitarian organizations to provide assistance to the population in Gaza. The document says that this happened despite warnings and calls from the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, states, and humanitarian organizations.
