Donald Trump "bewitched" Russian President Vladimir Putin and asked questions about him, wrote former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, recalling her 2017 visit to Washington in her memoir "Freedom", excerpts of which were published by the GermanZeit:the newspaper.
According to Merkel, the dialogue with Trump took place face-to-face.
"I spoke mostly in English, and an interpreter took part in the conversation and translated some of the more difficult parts. Donald Trump asked me several questions, including about my East German heritage and my relationship with Putin.
It is obvious that he was very impressed with the Russian president," the newspaper quoted from the preliminary version of the text of Merkel's book, which was distributed before the official publication.
