On November 20, during a press conference called by Yervand Kochar's son, Ruben Kochar, the latter voiced an opinion that the work "Self-Portrait" presented at the anniversary exhibition of Yervand Kochar's 125th birthday at the National Gallery of Armenia is not original. A message about this was distributed by KGSMN.
"The RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports promptly responded to the announcement and instructed the "Cultural Values Expert Center" to organize the examination and identification of the above-mentioned work.
We announce that Yervand Kochar's work "Self-Portrait" (1936, wood/oil, 27*22 cm), which is presented in the jubilee exhibition entitled "Yervand Kochar 125. Hating Time and Space" organized by "National Gallery of Armenia" SNOC , is an original work. This is evidenced by the data of the artistic examination, the comparative chemical analysis of the inner layer with the database data, the description of the front and back of the work (including the natural wear of the edges of the wood), the chemical change of the inner layer over time, the French painting supply store on the reverse of the work. the original label, as well as the previous expert control by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The work was subject to state control during the entire exhibition history, including before the above-mentioned jubilee exhibition, and there are expert reports confirming this.
