The football team of Armenia defeated the national team of Latvia

The last match of the group stage of the League of Nations with the Latvian national team was of strategic importance. In case of defeat, the Armenian national team appeared the weakest, under the threat of appearing in the D League.

In the group stage of the League of Nations, the national team of Armenia won 2:1 over the national team of Latvia.
Before the match with the Latvian team, the Armenian team had a unique record. Our team could not keep a clean sheet in the previous 26 games. If we kept a clean sheet in this match, we would keep our place in Group C of the League of Nations.

In the first half, the game had varying success and it was mostly an equal battle. But Nair Tiknizyan had a very good chance to open the scoring in the 31st minute, but shot wide. At the end of the first half, our team threatened the home team's goal several times one after the other, but it was not possible to complete the attack. In the end, the teams went to the break without creating a real scoring opportunity.
At the start of the second half, our team finally achieved its goal. First, after Ranos' shot, goalkeeper Rikhard Matrevits saved the Latvians, then after Lukas Selarayan's pass, Eduard Spertsyan put our team ahead with a header. The home team had a great chance to equalize in the middle of the second half, but Ognen Cancarević saved our team. Two minutes later, however, Latvia still scored the return ball.

However, our team took the lead again very quickly. After Selarayan's shot, the ball hit the horizontal bar of the goal, and Artur Miranyan reached it and sent it inside the goal line. Ours kept the winning score and took the second place in the group by earning three points. Armenian football players will participate in transition games to move to B League.
Parallel to the Latvia-Armenia match, the other match of our group between the teams of North Macedonia and the Faroe Islands was taking place. The team of North Macedonia won with a score of 1:0 and moved to the B league.
