Russian "Gazprom" has informed Austria that it will stop gas supplies

Russia's Gazprom has told Austria it will cut off gas supplies, the gas flow monitoring platform said on Friday, which could mean the end of the last supplies of Russian gas to Europe.

In a notice published on the Central European gas hub platform, the Austrian oil and gas company OMV said that Gazprom informed that the Russian gas producer will reduce natural gas supplies to zero on November 16 at 05:00 GMT.

Russian gas supplies to OMV through Ukraine are threatened by the end of the year due to arbitration proceedings against Gazprom, which the company warned on Thursday.

Austria is one of the few European countries still dependent on Russian gas, as the rest of the continent cut gas imports after the outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022.

The supply volume is 7,400 megawatt hours per hour, which corresponds to approximately 5 terawatt hours per month.

The contract between Moscow and Kiev for the export of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine will expire at the end of the year. This transit route supplies Russia through the territory of Ukraine mainly from Austria and Slovakia.

Kyiv has repeatedly announced that it will not renew the contract with Gazprom.

Austria's OMV has said it is preparing for a possible Russian gas shutdown and can still supply gas to its customers.

The company has reliable transport capabilities from Germany and Italy to Austria, as well as long-term gas supply contracts with other suppliers. OMV can also receive liquefied natural gas from the Netherlands.
