The border with Russia will remain closed, Finland said

Finnish Interior Minister Marie Rantanen said that the border with Russia remains closed because the Finnish authorities’ assessment of the threats has not changed.

The border between Finland and Russia is closed by decision of the Finnish authorities until further notice. Finland began introducing restrictions on border crossings from November 2023 amid an uncontrolled flow of refugees from third countries. Finnish authorities accused Russia of allegedly deliberately sending asylum seekers to the border. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, rejected accusations against Russia of involvement in the migration crisis in the European Union, calling them double standards of the West.

"The border is closed and the threat picture is similar to what it was before. According to the authorities, there is a high risk that (Russian - ed.) activities will resume if the border is open. At the moment, there is no need to make new decisions on opening the border," - she said in an interview with MTV3.
