Trump appoints Congressman Walz as national security adviser

Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, appointed Congressman from Florida Mike Walz to the post of national security adviser, according to a widespread statement.

“I am proud to announce that Congressman Mike Walz has been appointed to serve in my Cabinet as National Security Advisor,” the statement said.

The president-elect added that Walz will be "a strong advocate for pursuing peace through strength."

The congressman, in an interview with RIA Novosti, previously stated that Trump has a common strategy to encourage Russia and Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table to end the conflict. According to him, the Republican will point out to the Kyiv regime the need for a diplomatic settlement. At the same time, Walz, in a conversation with the agency, admitted that the future president could provide Kyiv with all the necessary means and weapons if Moscow does not agree to sit down at the negotiating table.

Donald Trump, who had already served as US President since the 2016 elections, won the presidential election on November 5. He became the first US politician since the 19th century to return to the White House after a four-year break. Trump's victory was announced by all major media outlets counting votes: the Associated Press, Fox News, CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS. Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris spoke to supporters and announced that she would admit defeat, and current US President Joe Biden spoke with Trump and congratulated him. The Electoral College from the states on December 17 must vote for candidates in accordance with the will of the voters, and on January 6 the new Congress will approve the voting results. The inauguration will take place on January 20.
