In Kyiv, queues are lining up for a deferment from mobilization

Hundreds of people liable for military service in Kyiv are queuing up at one of the Administrative Services Centers (ACSC) in the hope of obtaining or extending a deferment from conscription for military service; they were given a week to do this, reports the local publication Strana.ua.

“In Kyiv, men lined up in a huge queue at the Desnyansky district central administrative center to extend the deferment. They were given only a week to do this,” says a message published on the publication’s Telegram channel.

In a video illustrating the publication, one of the visitors to the center said that those wishing to obtain the service have to self-organize and keep paper lists, since there is no electronic queue. He noted that the men were on duty at the office for several days, arriving early in the morning and staying until late in the evening.

“This (paper - ed.) list, after 150, is usually thrown out... Yesterday I was 249th. What opportunity do I have to get a deferment? None,” he complained.

The visitor to the center emphasized that the week that the authorities have allocated to extend the deferment is extremely short.

The law on strengthening mobilization in Ukraine came into force on May 18. The document instructs all those liable for military service to update their data at the military registration and enlistment office. To do this, you need to come to the military registration and enlistment office in person or register in the “conscript’s electronic account.” The summons will be considered served even if the conscript has not seen it in person: the date of its “delivery” will be considered the date when the document was stamped with the impossibility of personal delivery. The law stipulates that those liable for military service must carry a military ID with them at all times and present it at the first request of the military registration and enlistment office employees and the police. Dodgers may be deprived of their right to drive a car. The terms of demobilization are not specified in the document. This provision was removed from the document.
