Stubb called on the EU to strengthen security on its own after Trump's victory

The European Union must increase its level of independence in ensuring its own security after the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the US presidential elections. The President of Finland Alexander Stubb expressed a similar opinion.

"Europe must understand that the US has changed. This means that we must take more responsibility for what we do. For example, from the point of view of security," he saidBloomberg:in an interview, adding that Trump has already said about his intention to stop the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

At the same time, the head of Finland expressed hope that the US and the EU will be able to maintain a united position on international issues during Trump's presidency.

"Throughout history, the United States and Europe have generally been on the same page. And I'm sure we'll do it again in the next four years," Stubb said.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff of the French Ground Forces, General Pierre Shill, announced that the EU will strengthen its defense, taking into account the results of the US elections. According to him, France wants to contribute to the defense of Europe.
