Protesters blocked the main bridge in Sukhumi

More than two hundred protesters in Abkhazia blocked traffic across the upper Gumistinsky bridge at the exit from Sukhum, through which the main republican highway to New Athos, Gagra and further to the border with Russia passes. “We decided to let ambulances through, we also help pedestrians if they need to move suitcases or other cargo, a transfer to Sochi and Sukhum has been organized,” said one of the demonstrators, Levan Inapshba. According to the protesters, The blocking of the bridge will continue until the authorities comply with their demand to release six activists from the temporary detention center. Protesters opposed to the ratification of the investment agreement with Russia blocked all three bridges through which roads lead from the Abkhaz capital. We are talking about the lower and upper Gumista bridges on the western and northern outskirts of the city (they lead, respectively, to the village of Eshera and the main republican highway from Psou to Ingur), as well as the Kodori bridge in the eastern part of Sukhum, which leads to the main republican highway towards Ochamchira and further to the Georgian border. At the same time, this morning the protesters unblocked the Kodori Bridge after the promise of parliament deputies Beslan Emurkhba and the head of the Ochamchira district of Beslan Bigvava facilitate the release from the temporary detention center of six protest participants detained the day before. The Abkhaz parliament yesterday adopted in final reading a project on the construction of multifunctional complexes, this document directly affects the implementation of the agreement with Moscow on the investment activities of Russian legal entities in the republic. The agreement was signed by 30 October, it must be ratified by the Abkhaz parliament. But before this, the deputies decided to pass a law regulating the construction of multifunctional complexes, which are provided for in the investment agreement. The issue of ratification of the agreement “On investment activities of Russian legal entities in the Republic of Abkhazia,” according to sources, will be considered by the Abkhaz parliament on November 15.
