Road accidents continue to claim lives around the world; on average, one person dies every 27 seconds.
At the same time, despite the fact that the number of vehicles worldwide has increased by more than one billion, the global death toll from road accidents has decreased by 21% over the past 15 years. A positive trend has also been recorded in Armenia.
Arman Chilingaryan, Deputy Head of the Patrol Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Police, noted that as of August 31, 2026, a decrease in the number of victims of road accidents was recorded in Armenia compared to the same period last year.
According to him, the downward trend in the number of victims has been maintained for two years in a row.
In particular, in 2024, compared to 2023, the number of victims of road accidents decreased by 45, and in 2025, compared to 2024, by another 50. According to Arman Chilingaryan, the total number of victims in 2024-2025 and the indicators recorded until the end of August 2026 is about 100 less, that is, we have 100 lives saved.
Arman Chilingaryan assures that the Patrol Service consistently implements complex measures to increase the vigilance and responsibility of road traffic participants.
In particular, in 2025, the Traffic Police drew up about 1 million administrative offenses, which is about 62,000 more than in the previous year. More than 21,000 cases of drunk driving were recorded, which is about 1,000 more than in 2024. More than 11,000 cases of driving without a child seat (seats) were drawn up. This figure almost doubled compared to the previous year, increasing by 5,700. And more than 108,000 violations were recorded regarding exceeding the established speed limit, which is 26,000 more than in the previous year.
