The Armenian midfielder of Inter Milan, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, gave an interview to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport before the 2026/27 season.
Referring to the extension of the contract and guarantees of playing time, he noted. "I have not received any guarantee. it wouldn't even be fair because I have to prove myself on the pitch whether I deserve a place in the team or not. But I feel that I can play at a high level for one more year, so together with the club we decided to stay one more year. Then we'll see."
Speaking about his role in the new season, Mkhitaryan emphasized. "The role is the usual one. I have always trained my best to set an example for others, especially the youth."
Answering the question whether this is the last year of his career, the football player said: "I don't know (laughs). It is impossible to determine today. I need to figure out how I'm going to feel at the end of this season. At my age, it makes no sense to make long-term plans."
The former captain of the Armenian national team last month extended his contract with "Inter" until the summer of 2027.
