Poland, Ukraine make progress on deal to exchange MiG-29 fighter jets for drones

Poland and Ukraine have made progress in the implementation of the agreement, according to which Warsaw should transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Kiev, and Ukraine should provide Poland with technology and unmanned aerial vehicles, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosyniak-Kamisz said.Polsat News.

According to the minister, the Ukrainian side has returned to negotiations, and now the situation looks much better than a few days ago. At the same time, the Polish minister emphasized that the deal should be based on the principle of reciprocity and real solidarity.

"Ukraine has great opportunities in the field of drone production and even exports them to the Middle East, so it cannot be said that all its products are used exclusively for its own needs," Kosyniak-Kamish said.

The head of the Polish Ministry of Defense also commented on the reports about the possible demands of Kiev regarding the technical condition of the Polish MiG-29s. He noted that Warsaw is ready to discuss the modernization of the planes, but the possible costs should be borne by Ukraine or those allies that would like to participate in the financing.

Earlier, Kosyniak-Kamish stated that Poland does not transfer fighter jets to Ukraine, because Kiev, supposedly, did not fulfill its part of the agreement. According to him, the initial proposal was the exchange of "MiGs for drones". Ukraine was supposed to share unmanned technologies and their production experience in exchange for planes.

The Minister of Defense of Poland noted that Ukrainian developments in the field of drones are of high value, because it is not only about the supply of equipment, but also about the exchange of technologies and experience. He added that the agreement can be reached if the principle of reciprocity is respected.
