Turkish authorities are ready to regulate relations with Armenia when the necessary conditions appear. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced this to "Türkiye" newspaper after his visit to Russia on June 16-17.
"Nikol Pashinyan's government has taken very important steps towards the settlement. On the orders of President Tayyip Erdogan, many important steps have been taken, including the establishment of direct trade and air traffic. The tasks to be done in the new period are also clear.
We are ready for settlement when the necessary conditions appear," Fidan said. Turkish President Erdoğan had previously congratulated Pashinyan on the occasion of his victory in the June 7 parliamentary elections. During the telephone conversation between them, both parties expressed their satisfaction with the activation of contacts. Despite having a border, Armenia and Turkey do not have diplomatic relations. the border has been closed since 1993.
So far, the parties have agreed to open the border for citizens of third countries with diplomatic passports.
