Iran should not use the Strait of Hormuz as a tool to oppress or blackmail the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said.
"Continued skirmishes regarding the freedom of navigation and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz do not contribute to the improvement of the situation. Iran should not use this strait as a weapon to oppress or blackmail the Persian Gulf states," he said at a press conference held in Doha after talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The Prime Minister of Qatar emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is an international transport corridor that "must always be protected". "What is happening now in the Strait of Hormuz must not be repeated. It should be clear to everyone that any such action will have negative consequences," Sheikh Mohammed said.
