Australia has deployed an elite SAS special forces unit to the Middle East amid fears of an escalation in the conflict over Iran.
This was reported by The Daily Telegraph, noting that the deployment was made without a public announcement. Citing sources, the publication notes that the unit is supposedly located at the Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, but the exact location and details of the location are not disclosed.
The Daily Telegraph notes that the forces deployed "are not intended to participate in combat operations and their primary mission is to provide security and possibly carry out evacuation operations, including for diplomatic mission personnel."
