Within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated in the Vayots Dzor Marz Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee, as a result of the activities carried out jointly with the employees of the NSS Syunik Marz Department, a number of circumstances of essential importance for the investigation of the illegal drug trafficking case, including the identity of two of the persons involved in the criminal chain, were revealed.
The investigation revealed, in particular, that a 62-year-old resident of Vayots Dzor marz, on October 29, 2024, around 06:30, drove a HONDA ACCORD car near the Armenian-Iranian border, which was caught by the barbed wire network of the Republic of Iran. 4 packets of "Marijuana" and 10.55 grams of "Methamphetamine" type drugs thrown into RA territory, which he kept in the trunk of the car he was driving and transported for illegal sale.
As a result of numerous investigative operations, as well as measures undertaken jointly with the employees of the Syunik Marz Department of the RA National Security Service, on the same day, at 1:30 p.m., the said resident of Vayots Dzor Marz was arrested, on the basis of a reasonable suspicion that he had committed a crime, and a particularly large amount of the said drug packages were found and taken by the search of the vehicle.
It was found out that the man had to throw the mentioned drugs over the barbed wire into the territory of the Republic of Armenia in the hiding place preferred by a person, an IRI citizen, who has not yet been identified by the investigation, in order for another person to acquire it and transfer it to the buyer.
During the legal search of the "HONDA ACCORD" car belonging to a 62-year-old man, 4 packages with total weights of 1,130 kg, 1,120 kg, 1,065 kg and 0,505 kg were found in the trunk. The man told the law enforcement officers that what was found was "Marijuana" drug, which was handed over to him by a citizen of Iran, and he was supposed to take the mentioned packages to the place of his choice.
As a result of the activities carried out jointly with the employees of Vayots Dzor Regional Department of the RA Investigative Committee and Syunik Regional Department of the NSS, the identity of one more person involved in the illegal drug trafficking chain, who is a 23-year-old citizen of the Republic of Iran, was revealed.
The latter, at the time of obtaining the previously replaced packages within the framework of operative-investigative measures, was arrested by the officers of the Syunik Marz Department of the RA NSS, on the basis of a reasonable suspicion that he had committed a crime.
During the preliminary investigation, a forensic and forensic chemical examination was appointed in order to find out the nature of the masses in the packages and the exact weight. a decision was made to initiate criminal prosecution, and against the resident of Vayots Dzor, according to Article 393, Part 3, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code. Petitions were filed for a preventive detention against the two individuals, which were granted by the court.
The investigation is ongoing. Necessary measures are being taken to find out the involvement of other persons in the drug chain.
