Georgia will impose up to three years in prison for calls for disobedience to the authorities

The ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party has introduced amendments to the Criminal Code that will punish systematic disobedience to state authorities with up to three years in prison. Archil Gorduladze, head of the Legal Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, presented the amendments made to the Criminal Code.

At the session of the Parliament's Legal Committee, Gorduladze presented the draft law "On Grants" for the second reading. This bill would ban covert methods of financing the unrest in Georgia.

The package of bills also includes amendments to the Criminal Code, which the ruling party decided to supplement during the second reading with provisions on the issue of non-recognition of the government's legitimacy.

"Unfortunately, the reality is that there are individuals who systematically reject the constitution and the constitutional order.

With their actions, they present a real threat to Georgia's sovereignty. At the same time, they do not recognize the most important principle of democracy - that the Georgian people make decisions in Georgia," Gorduladze stated at the session.

According to him, it is planned to amend the criminal code by including an article on extremism against the constitutional order. The proposed amendments provide for a fine or up to three years in prison for mass violations of the law, mass disobedience to state bodies, and the creation of alternative bodies.
